Well, it's official. Barak Obama is making a run for the Presidency. If any candidate in recent history had a chance of wooing my vote back to the Democratic party, it's Obama. We'll see if he's able to keep up all the great ideas he puts forth in The Audacity of Hope. He's smart, he relates to common folk, and is an absolutely fantastic public speaker.
Come to think of it, I might just vote for him based on his eloquence. I need some new presidential material with which to work in my rhetoric courses. Bush the Younger is just plain awful, Clinton played so many damn word games that you never knew what he was really saying, and Bush the Older was plain and uninspiring. You have to go all the way back to ravishing Ronald Reagan to find some truly excellent presidential speaking. Considering the President is the voice of a nation, 20+ years without a terrific speaker is pathetic.
Guess I'll be paying attention to the news for a while, eh?

If Obama had his way, you would have to register this blog with the government as a grassroots political site.
The Democrats are going to let a little bit of very tenuous power go to their heads. I think in 2008 they are going to find themselves flanked from the left/populist side. No way they run McCain. He is just too jowly.
Now, to add a sports metaphor to my war metaphor (this is politics, after all). The Democrats have just kicked a field goal at the end of the 3rd quarter to take the lead. With that lead, they are going to play it safe and stick to a running game. But the Republicans have a very deep bench and they are going to bring in a some hot new players. These guys haven't had any playing time so far this season and they are chomping at the bit. Coach Rove knows his 1st string seniors won't be around next year, so he's going to change his strategy.
